The Weakest DM Album (Part 2)

Postby FirmBeliever » Mon Sep 26, 2005 4:51 pm

...which one would it be? And I don't mean just your copy - you would never hear any of the songs on the radio, couldn't borrow it from a friend, etc. You'd never hear it again. And People Are People, Catching Up With, 101, Remixes, etc don't count. Only the big 10.

I think I'd have to pick Exciter. Not a big fan, and since it's the most recent, I'm not as attached to it.

A Broken Frame was the one that came last in my "rank the albums" thread, which really is just this in reverse. Judging by that thread, about 85% of people will vote for either Speak & Spell or Exciter.
And finally...Vince Clarke started DM. No VC=No DM. Comprendez?

Having said that, the album I would get rid of is SOFAD Live - never, ever listen to it. Their worst tour, imho. The second one I would get rid of is Remixes 81-04, far too many of the crap versions were on there.

Yeah, I know we've done the ranking thing before but I was curious what people's answers might be to this since there might be one song on (in your case) A Broken Frame that you just couldn't live without. Maybe you'd get rid of something else...

I was tempted to say Construction Time Again, but without that album, there would be a couple songs I'd miss: Everything Counts and Told You So. Exciter, on the other hand, is anything but exciting. While I do like several songs on it, I can't say I'd feel a great loss if I were to never hear them again. Albums that are great stand the test of time. I didn't rate Exciter highly in 2001 and it's still poor, now, in my opinion.

I would get rid of 10 other band's albums so I could keep all DM albums...

Look, if you had to get rid of one album, the choice should be easy for everyone. Which album did Martin write the least songs on??? Which album was more about the beat and less about the words??? Don't get me wrong, I love Vince, but if you need to take one album away from the DM catalog, take SPEAK AND SPELL because it does not have the Martin GORE influence that makes DM!
