Yeah, it would have to be a "classical" composer for me, too. Like Rachmaninoff or Berlioz or Chopin or something. I d/k.

Mart is unique but there also guys like Trent Raznor of NIN, Marc Almond (like him a lot and his cabaret style Image), Andrew Eldritch of SoM. Leonard Cohen, Alien Jourgensen OF Ministry and milion of other bands Image, all the guys from Skinny Puppy Image.

I've always considered Martin in a league of his own, but I'd say :

Marc Almond and Morrissey. Between them they cover the same subject matter as Martin in their own unique way.
All three were a great inspiration during my teens in the 80's !!

that's a hard one really, the only person that comes to mind is maybe jim morrison in some of his songs.

Seriously, I compare him to no one. There are other great writers out there of course, but none like him.
