Ohhhh yes !!! I've just come back to it after a couple of months off and it sounds better again.

It's the best album we've had for a long time and I love it for all the reasons I like the more classic albums.

I think Eternal is an amazing haunting track in the same way I always loved 'I want you now' and 'To have and to hold' on MFTM; I love the layers of sound that you keep discovering in the same you do with BC; 'So Much Love' comes in with new pace and aggression to kick start the album again part way through in the same way 'Question of Time' did; 'Cover Me' is a melancholy classic like 'ETS'; 'Scum' is a techo masterpiece; and the remixes on the deluxe versions are as much about DM and this album as the first remixes DM created for their earlier work rather than just another DJ's own interpretation.

It's a classic (IMO of course).

BTW... I was listening to the new James album 'Living in extraordinary times' whilst I was away from DM, and that's bloody marvelous too !

Spirit has a late 80s feel ? How so ? It doesn't sound like DM did in the late 80s and it doesn't really sound like other electronic bands who were around in the late 80s . I think the synths of Spirit sound more like early 80s synths .

I do still listen to Spirit now and then, and I try to keep it in the deck as long as I possibly can due to the digipack scratches the CD every time I put it in or get it out. However, I really want to go back to Delta Machine lately. Somehow Delta Machine seems stronger than Spirit among the latest albums even though Spirit is so spot on politically.

I prefer Playing the Angel over both Spirit and Delta Machine . IMO that's the strongest of their 2000s albums .

PTA is a great album, hands down. I like its darkness, the rough texture of the sound and the lyrics are great (plus the SACD was well packed in comparison to the last albums), but why I'm preferring Delta Machine so far is: more references to the "old sound" of DM (I believe that's what iminthezombieroom meant by 80s feel in Spirit) and more unexpected harmonies. The latter is the major reason I'm so attracted to the tracks and want to listen to them over and over.
All the best,
Denis M.

I listened to it a bit last week for the first time in a couple months to be honest, still hasn't left me wowed like I was hoping unfortunately.

I think both Delta Machine and Spirit have too many mid tempo and slow tracks . And while the harmonies on those albums maybe more complex they also don't have that many very dark songs and rough songs .
